Pettycur Harbour was destroyed by storms in 1725 and in 1748. It was rebuilt during the 1760s and again, with an additional basin, by 1791 at which time the pier was extended and a lighthouse erected. A further low water extension was added by 1819, but the harbour was partially infilled in 1937.
