Circa 1825 with minor additions. Single storey terrace comprising 4 symmetrical double-fronted 3-bay cottages. Coursed stugged sandstone to principal (S) elevation; coursed sandstone rubble elsewhere; droved sandstone dressings. Droved long and short surrounds to original openings; slightly projecting cills to principal elevation. Coped gable ends.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: central entrance with flanking windows to each cottage. Boarded timber door with rectangular fanlight (all 2-light, apart from replacement to No 2) to each entrance.
N ELEVATION: irregular fenestration. Small lower height extensions (mainly flat-roofed) to each cottage except for No 1. Central entrances set back to Nos 2 and 3; both with timber doors (that to No 3 is boarded) and 2-pane rectangular fanlights; window to right of that to No 3. Entrance (probably inserted) with modern part-glazed timber door to right of No 4. Window to left of No1.
E and W ELEVATIONS: blank gable ends.
12-pane timber sash and case windows to principal (S) elevation; various frames elsewhere. Grey slate roof. 5 droved sandstone ridge stacks (one to either side of each cottage) with corniced ashlar coping, including gablehead stacks at either end of terrace; round cans.
INTERIOR: not inspected (1999)
An intact row of earlier 19th century cottages. It was apparently built for farm workers at the nearby Hilton Farm (steading in a ruinous condition 1999; see separate list description for farmhouse).
