Description

Mid 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay mirrored pair of houses forming part of terrace. Painted ashlar; rusticated at ground floor. Vermiculated base course; dividing band course; 1st floor cill course; cornice; blocking course. Aprons to 1st floor windows.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: steps to 3-column fluted doorpiece; timber doors; 3-light fanlights; 2 single windows aligned above at 1st floor; flanking single windows at ground and 1st floors.

Plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; stone skews; coped stacks; polygonal cans.

INTERIORS: not seen 1998.

RAILINGS: spear-headed railings to entrance steps. Remaining railings modern.

Statement of Interest

Nos 1-29 (Inclusive Nos, no No 13 and 30, 32 and 54 Fullarton Street) form B Group. The N side of Barns Street formed Ayr's first regular terrace development (Dodd, p358).
