Description

Later 19th century. Single storey cottage. Sandstone rubble; squared to entrance elevation. Strip margins; square-headed margins to openings.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central entrance; glazed timber door; letterbox fanlight; flanking single windows.

SE ELEVATION: gabled, window off-centre to left of 1st floor.

NE AND NW ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.

16-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof; stone skews; coped gablehead stacks; circular cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS, GATE AND BOUNDARY WALL: iron gatepiers to vehicular entrance to outer right and central pedestrian entrance; iron central gate; low coped boundary wall to entrance elevation;

Statement of Interest

A good later 19th century example of cottage architecture, distinctive in the largely late 19th and early 20th century Castlehill Road. The building's recessed position in the streetscape draws further attention to its distinctive modest scaling.
