Little is known about George Coutts of Aberdeen. Coutts was responsible for the design of Fountainhall Road, including Nos 44 and 46, which are more unusual in design then the other buildings. They were designed for the Saint Swithin Street Building Association. Particularly noteworthy are the domed fishscale roofs of the turrets and bowed windows, and the contrast between the broken segmental pediment and triangular pediments to the W.
