Early 18th century and early 19th century. Pair of single storey cottages. The earlier one (to N) has more steeply pitched roofline; that to S is apparently single cell. Harled exterior; gable ends of original building of whinstone rubble.
E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: single entrance to each cottage; that to right has boarded timber door.
W ELEVATION: 2 windows to each cottage; that to outer right of left cottage is particularly small. Harled wall adjoins at right angles to right of right cottage.
N ELEVATION: small brick and harled lean-to adjoins.
S ELEVATION: single small blocked window to gable end.
12-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roofs. Pair of rubble/coursed rubble gable end stacks with band courses and water tabling to N cottage; hexagonal can to S. Coped coursed rubble gable end stack to S of S cottage.
INTERIOR: not inspected (1998).
The steeply pitched roof of the north cottage indicates an early date and that it was thatched. The south cottage is no longer inhabited.
