Description

James Craig, 1774. 4-storey tenement on splayed corner site, 3 bays to Candlemaker Row, 5 bays to Merchant Street; nepus gables with apex stacks to each elevation. Random rubble with polished ashlar dressings. Dividing band between ground and 1st floors and beneath gables. Long and short rusticated quoins.

S (MERCHANT STREET) ELEVATION: regularly fenestrated. Timber panelled door in moulded surround to centre. 2-window nepus gable over 2nd and 3rd bays from left. Later piend-roofed dormer to right.

SW (CANDLEMAKER ROW) ELEVATION: timber panelled door with letterbox fanlight to left. Small round-arched window in gablehead. Later window in gable roof.

12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates.Corniced apex stacks with circular cans.

Laid out in 1774 by James Craig, who also provided elevations.
