Carron Company, Stirlingshire (embossed signature), 1936. Columnar pillar box with swept frieze to shallow-domed cap, dentilled at rim. Cast-iron. Base (painted black) with signature, shaft bearing "EVIIIR" in raised gothic lettering with crown above and "Post Office" below.
One of very few post boxes cast in the short reign of Edward VIII bearing his cipher "EVIIIR". A total of 271 letter boxes were made in 1936, 161 of which were pillar boxes.
