Later to late 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay villa with later bowed wing and fine interior; late 20th century extension to rear. Bull-faced ashlar with droved ashlar dressings. 1st floor cill course and eaves cornice. Segmental- and round-headed openings. Stone transoms and mullions and stop-chamfered arrises.
SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: original house symmetrical. Centre bay at ground with small porch on turned timber piers and ashlar dwarf walls, piended slated roof and brattishing, panelled timber door with plate glass fanlight and flanking narrow lights. Pilastered and corniced round-headed bipartite window at 1st floor and out-of-character flat-roofed dormer above. Flanking bays with full-height slate-roofed, canted windows breaking into finialled gableheads. Slightly lower bowed wing to outer left with 4-light window at ground and pedimented wide-centre tripartite above.
NW (HEATHCOTE ROAD) ELEVATION: advanced wing to right with wide-centre tripartite to each floor breaking eaves into gablehead with jettied timber fretwork pelmet, bowed returns and roof (that to left with wallhead stack) surmounted by platform with brattishing. Asymmetrical fenestration to extension at left.
NE (REAR) ELEVATION: altered elevation with variety of elements including 4-light transomed stair window to centre, low projection to left and taller extension to right.
Plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows; etched glass to stair window and some coloured leaded panels. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with cans. Overhanging eaves with plain bargeboarding and decorative cast-iron finials.
INTERIOR: good decorative scheme in place. Decorative plasterwork cornices and ceilings; dado rails, panelled soffits and brass sash lifts. Mosaic patterned floor to vestibule and hall, screen door with etched glass, timber-balustered staircase with finialled newels. Timber fire surrounds with cast-iron grates and tiled cheeks. W wing with bowed room at ground retaining timber panelling, incorporating inset fireplace and flanking doors.
BOUNDARY WALLS, GATEPIERS AND GATES: semicircular-coped squared and random rubble boundary walls with pyramidal- and flat-coped square-section bull-faced gatepiers and ironwork gate.
Formerly known as Ogilvie House, Benheath is currently (2001) used as Morrison's Academy Nursery.
