Flanked to right by slightly recessed return of entrance bay with small window; 2-pane fanlight to door on return. Verandah to outer right with gabled, open timber porch on tree trunk columns; hoop railings; bipartite behind. Outer bay to left, sympathetic later addition, recessed with bipartite window.
NE elevation: advanced gabled bay to left with bipartite window and indication in masonry of gable having been raised for attic. Bipartite recessed to right.
NW elevation: advanced gabled bay to left, blank. Less advanced gabled bay at centre, overstepping projecting bay to left, with door flanked by 2 small irregular windows. Bipartite in extension recessed to right.
SW elevation: lean-to conservatory abutting gable end.
Plate glass glazing in sash and case windows; 4-pane to piend-roofed slate-hung dormer to rear. Purple and grey slates; modern rooflights. Decorative timber barge boards to principal gables with kingposts and attenuated finials. Stone stacks.
Outbuilding: small, gabled, rectangular-plan wash-house (?), to N of cottage. Rubble granite with harl pointing. Ashlar coped skews. Door to left of SW gable; small window with small-pane sash and case glazing and smaller opening to NW elevation; blank NE gable. Brick chimney to NE. Grey slates. Ashlar coped skews. Rooflight.
The original form of Garmaddie Cottage was echoed later in the Keeper's House, Birkhall. The low propotions here emphasise the woodland location and service function of the cottage which is a fine example of the estate provision.
