History

Later C19 character but with older origins (building shown on the site on 1833). This housed the Holywell branch of The Flintshire Observer newspaper, established in 1855 - the full title was The Flintshire Observer, Mining Journal and General Advertiser; the printing workshop was at rear.

Exterior

3-storey, 3-window cement rendered front with rusticated quoins; slate roof and cement rendered chimney stack. 4-pane sash windows, smaller upper sashes to 2nd floor which has blocked central window. Projecting shop front (not shown on 1871 map); the shop window, offset to left, has pointed arched lights with colonnettes flanking similarly Gothic door; panelled stallriser and 4-panel door to extreme right with overlight. A old photograph (ca 1920) shows a Gothic style iron balustrade over the fascia.

Reasons for Listing

Included for group value with Nos 2 to 6 and for the special intrest of the shopfront.
