History

The oriental gardens were laid out for Charles Liddell who purchased Shirenewton Hall in 1900 and made a number of improvements to it. This is one of the possibly genuine Japanese structures which survive.

Exterior

This is a rendered and colourwashed early C20 garden building (visible from Crick Road) in oriental style with swept pagoda shaped pantile roof. Moulded gable parapets with apex finials, dragon motif over the centre of the ridge. Wide eaves and kneelers. Circular panel over traceried oculus to east gable end, entrance to west. There is said to be a marble sundial on a crouching monster in front of the summer house.

Reasons for Listing

Included for its group value with Shirenewton Hall and the other listed items in the grounds.
