The "Friars" with its beautiful grounds was given to the Royal Gwent Hospital by Viscount Tredegar in 1913. Built as a private dwelling house in the Victorian era, it is now a postgraduate medical and dental education centre. It was made a Grade 2 listed building in Feb 1980.
