History

C19 plaque set in stonework under small gable. John Leland, on his visit to Tenby in or about 1539, noted that the towns people obtained their water from a well near St John’s Hospital, that is, presumably from this well.

Exterior

Marble small plaque inscribed in black lead capitals: 'Under this stone is St John’s Well for many centuries the sole water supply of the inhabitants of Tenby'. Set in gabled surround of tooled grey limestone on top of rubble stone retaining wall.
