History

Former hotel, now restaurant circa 1800 in appearance but with C17 origins.

Exterior

Three storey, four window front in brick (painted); slate roof, rectangular brick chimneys. Second floor has four windows (nine pane hornless sashes), R window offset to R. First floor has four taller windows (twelve pane hornless sashes), R window offset to R. On ground floor, in second bay, entrance doorway beneath flat roofed open porch with wooden posts. To each side of doorway twelve-pane hornless sash window. To L further square-headed doorway (not on early C20 photos); to R broad segmentally-headed doorway through to passageway with exposed timber-framing to sides and rear. Interior of cafe has (amongst applied timber framing) longitudinal beam with inscriptions 'E:V' and '1657'.
