Poem on Welcome sign at entrance

Merlin roved the wilds of Wales
Through every kind of weather
In storm and flood and wind and gales
His skin was hard as leather

But when the sun was high and hot
Although he was no quitter
He could not go on till he had got
A pint of good Welsh bitter

And when he came to Pontypridd
His tongue had started curling
He found this Inn, his thirst was eased
And here it stands, The Merlin.
