Exterior

Bears date 1847. Single arched masonry road bridge. Grey coursed rubble with buff freestone dressings. Segmental arch with rusticated stepped voussoirs, keystone to NW (towards town centre) has lion’s head; keystone to SE has date ‘1847’ in raised lettering. Piers to each side of arch have rock faced quoins, as have piers to ends of bridge. Freestone band at road level. Parapet with flat freestone coping; low pyramidal capstones to piers.

Reasons for Listing

Included as very early railway structure from primary period of Chester to Holyhead Railway.
