History

Probably early C19, sunken servants' pathway, constructed to allow access for servants past the main front of Hartsheath Hall without being seen from inside the house.

Exterior

Curving sunken pathway flanked by stone rubble walls, that to SE slightly higher. The pathway also acts as a Ha-ha to the adjacent parkland and runs parallel to the main driveway, around the front of the house and to the service wing. The walls run NW to a point where it meets the main drive and SE to the point where the main drive becomes a track.

Reasons for Listing

Listed as a well preserved example of an unusual country-house estate feature and for group value with the other buildings on the Hartsheath Estate.
