History

The milestone is on a new turnpiked section of the the old Welshpool to Machynlleth road set out in the early C19, and running from the surviving toll house (Tyrpeg) to Penrhiwcul, below the course of the former road.

Exterior

The milestone is of slate, a flat slab painted white, with a cut inscription reading MACHYNLLETH/ 13 MILES / MALLWYD 1 1/2 / CAN-OFFICE 10 1/2

Reasons for Listing

Included as one of the only two surviving milestones on the new turnpike line of the main arterial road through central Wales, the only one to survive in its entirety.
