History

In 1879, the LNWR opened a standard guage branch line from Betwes y coes to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Narrow and standard guage sidings were installed at Pant yr Afon to allow the transport of slates from the Llechwedd quarry on the LNWR. The weighbridge house dates from approximately this time.

Exterior

A small rectangular plan building. Slate stone construction with hipped roof, from which most of the slates have been removed. Doorway in short return elevation, and small window overlooking the weighbridge. Contains remain of weighing machinery.

Reasons for Listing

Listed for group value with other items at the Llechwedd sidings, and as a rare surviving weighbridge house retaining some machinery.
