Mid C19 cast iron mile marker on Haverfordwest to Narberth turnpike road, one of the roads which was shown on the map in the 1844 Inquiry Report as managed by the Tavernspite Turnpike Trust. The Trust appears to be of C18 origin. It was controlled under an act of 1808. Following the Rebecca riots all Pembrokeshire roads were taken over in 1845 by the County Roads Board. It was probably after this consolidation that the foundry of Joseph Marychurch, Haverfordwest, cast the plates for the mileposts.
Mile post, 2 white painted cast iron plates with triangular tops set into triangular stone on short rubble stone wall. Plates have raised letters in black which read '8 MILES 180 YARDS TO NARBERTH 17 MILES 922 YARDS TO PEMBROKE' on the W side and '1 MILE TO HAVERFORDWEST' on the E side.
(1 mile = 1.6 km)
Included for its historic transport interest as a C19 mile post on the Haverfordwest to Narberth turnpike road.
