A probably early to mid C19 rebuild of a C17 house. Church Street had some widening as part of the improvements associated with Priory Street and White Swan Court in c1837, but the north side appears to retain the historic street line. It is not known whether No. 5 is a complete rebuild or if C17 fabric remains.
Rendered and painted front with Welsh slate roof. Single bay double depth plan suggesting early origins but visually of the 1840s. Probably an altered late C19 shopfront with entry on the right, single sheet plate glass window. The first floor has a tripartite plate glass sash recessed under an elliptical head, stone cill. Cill band to second floor, paired arch headed windows with 1 over 1 pane sashes. Decorative bargeboards with drop brackets.
Rear elevation not seen.
Interior not available at resurvey, apart from the shop premises.
Included for its special architectural interest as a multi-period building and as part of the continuous run of historic buildings in Church Street.
