1/117 Avon Farm Cottage
II
Pair of cottages, now one. Mid-C18, with C20 rear wing. Uncoursed
limestone with some brick, thatched roof with gable-end brick
stacks. T-plan. 2-storey, 3-window front. Early C20 rustic
porch to left of centre stands on fragments of Romanesque columns,
probably from Old Sarum. To either side is one 2-light casement.
First floor has 2-light, 4-light and 2-light casements. Left and
right returns are windowless and have C20 single storey brick
extensions. Rear has C20 metal casements to ground floor and 2-
light and single wooden casements to first floor. Rear C20 wing
is thatched with metal casements.
Interior not inspected. Much of stonework was probably quarried
from the ruins of Old Sarum. (Unpublished records of RCHM
(England), Salisbury)
