House, now flats. Mostly C18 and C19, but perhaps with an earlier core; recently
altered externally and remodelled internally. Brick, mostly slate-hung or rendered
and painted white, red tile roofs. U-plan formed by a rectangular double-depth
block under a 2-span roof, facing south, a rear wing to the west half with
various additions to its side, and a set-back wing attached to the east side.
Two-and-a-half storeys with 2-storey wings; the 3-bay south front is brick below
the ground-floor windows and tile-hung above (the lower section formerly of
mathematical tiles), symmetrical, with a flight of rebuilt steps to a raised front
door which has a fanlight with radiating glazing bars (and formerly had a
pedimented architrave), two 16-pane sashed windows on each floor and a 12-pane
sash above the door, and a hipped roof with 2 hipped dormers (and 2 chimneys
in the valley to the rear). The left return wall has one window at 1st floor, and
to the rear of this is a large outshut to the rear wing which has a catslide roof
with a very large tile-hung gabled dormer (and a modern single-storey addition
at the south end which is not of special interest). The right-hand return wall of
the main block has a renewed sashed window on each floor; the attached east
wing, which is rendered and painted white, has altered or inserted windows. The
rear wall of the main block, facing the present entrance court, of similar
materials to the front, has a doorway in the right-hand corner with a tall 18-
pane sashed window immediately above, a large 16-pane sash at ground floor and
2 smaller ones above, and 2 hipped dormers; both wings are rendered and painted
white, that to the west is lower and has a tripartite sash at ground floor and a
4-light casement above, and that to the east has altered openings. Interior not
inspected, but said to contain some remains of timber framing, none visible.
