Manor house. Early C17, extended C18. Coursed squared limestone rubble with
ashlar dressings; old plain-tile roof with rebuilt brick stacks. 3-unit
cross-passage plan. 2 storeys plus attic. Triple-gabled front has three 3-light
stone-mullioned windows at each floor with intermediate single-light windows at
ground and first floors, all with ovolo mouldings and labels. Most windows are
probably C19. 4-centre arched entrance, to left of centre, has recessed
spandrels and a label. Parapets have steep copings with a ridge roll and some
simple finials. Roof has a large clustered stack to right of centre and further
stacks on the end gables. Lower C18 bay to left of front has a 2-light casement.
Rear wing has small 2-light stone-mullioned stair windows with a plain chamfer
and no label. Rear has been much altered but retains several original
ovolo-moulded windows. Right end wall and rear of right bay have leaded cross
windows under stone flat arches. Interior: stop-chamfered beams. Large open
fireplace with bread oven. C17 oak-panelled parlour with a shell-headed alcove,
a Tudor-arched stone fireplace and a panelled overmantel with caryatids.
Moulded-stone first-floor fireplaces, one a bolection surround. Butt-purlin
roof. Early plank-shutters in stair tower. Remains of former cross-passage.
