4/96 The Keeper's Cottage

Shown on Ordnance Survey map as Keeper's Lodge.
Gamekeeper's cottage. Late C18, extended and re-modelled mid C19. Colourwashed
brick; thatch roof with brick and stone stacks. 2-unit lobby-entry plan. Cottage
ornee style. One storey plus attic. 2-window front has a central doorway, with
plank door and rectangular overlight, between 2-light casements. Older section,
to right of door has segmental arches; newer section has gauged-brick flat
arches. Roof has 2 small inset 2-light dormers and projects onto 7 rustic posts
at the front to form a verandah. Central octagonal stack has a moulded stone
cap; stacks on right gable have been rebuilt. Left gable has a bargeboard with
apex pendant, all formerly covered with bark. Interior: large brick open
fireplace with bread oven.
(Nuneham Park is included in the HBNC County Register of Gardens at Grade I).
