Manor House, C16 and later, timber frame, flint, stone and brick, with plain
tile roof. T-shaped plan of 3 storeys and attics with single storey addition
between north and west wings. Fragment of the C16 manor house to south east,
heightened and extended to the west in the C17, and restored and extended
to the north in the late C19. Principal facade to east has off centre C17
close studded gable, jettied on C17 joists at second floor level. C16 range,
jettied at first floor level runs north south and under gable south and
terminates with rebuilt brick stepped gable with C19 end stack. Jetty under-
built in C19 in brick with stone quoins. 2 stone C19 mullion and transom
windows with wrought iron casements flank the entrance door with moulded oak
frame with carved spandrel panels bearing the rebus of Catton. 2 and 3 light
casement windows with glazing bars above. Oriel window above door on brackets
with moulded frame and cornice. Range to north of gable C19, 3 windows with
timber framed first floor. Casement windows at ground floor with moulded
brick transoms. Moulded brick corbel course under first floor wall plate.
Casement windows to first floor with glazing bars. 2 gabled dormers with
3 light casement windows with glazing bars. 2 C19 elaborate brick gable stacks
and central gable stack. West wing C17, built of flint, and re-used dressed
stone of 2 storeys. Scattered C19 fenestration of casements and sashes.
Coved eaves, brick kneelers, parapet eaves with timber caps. 2 C19 gabled
dormers with 2 light casement windows with glazing bars. C19 gateway in south
wall of conservatory with moulded stone surround, and oak frame with carved
spandrels. Wall of knapped flint with stone dressings. Good C19 interior
details. C16 solid tread oak dog-leg stair on 2 storeys. Deep oak joists
with double tenons into rebated transverse beams. Wall posts with braces
to tie beams in C16 range. C17 6 bay, heavy oak butt purlin roof runs east
west.
