Description

BROMPTON AND A 489 (north side)
SO 29 SE RHISTON C.P.

12/7 Brompton Hall
-

- II

Farmhouse. Probably C17 but incorporating parts of an earlier building,
remodelled late C18 and extended late C19 with later additions and alterations.
Roughcast probably concealing timber frame to front, painted rubblestone
to rear; red brick additions and slate roofs, graded to C17 part. Complex
building sequence with gable to centre of C17 part perhaps surviving
from an earlier building; left gable of prominent late C19 addition to
right also apparently incorporates some earlier work. 2 storeys to C17
part and 2 storeys and attic to C19 addition. Three windows to C17 part,
all C20 casements except to gable which has C19 casement. External end
stack to left with red brick shaft has large rounded rubblestone bread
oven with conical slate cap abutting; large red brick stack to right gable
end at junction with apparently C19 addition. This has 2 gables to front
with a 2-storey canted bay between, late C19 casements throughout. Interior:
chamfered ceiling beams with straight-cut stops apparently in situ to
left gable of late C19 part suggest that this section is a remodelling
rather than newly built at this time.
