Beeston memorial approx. 23 metres to south-east of tower of Church of Saint Mary

Pedestal tomb with canopy. Dated 1846. Grey sandstone ashlar.
Square base with step. Pedestal with moulded plinth, recessed side
panels, pilaster strips with vertical incised ornament and moulded
corners, moulded cornice, and amphora finial (reset in C20 cement base)
with gadrooned lower parts and Greek key ornament to band at top.
Canopy consisting of 4 fluted columns with acathus capitals supporting
entablature with triangular pediment to each face and antefixae at
corners. Pedestal inscribed: "HERE LIE / THE MORTAL REMAINS OF /
WILLIAM BEESTON / WHO WAS BORN / AT THE HILLS IN THIS PARISH / AND
FOR MORE THAN FIFTY / YEARS PRACTISED AS A / SURGEON AT WELLINGTON
/ IN THIS COUNTY: / HE DIED MARCH 20th 1846 / AGED 84 YEARS / IN GRATEFUL
AND / AFFECTIONATE REMEMBRANCE / HIS NIECE TABITHA BEESTON / RAISED
THIS MONUMENT".
