Mid C18 remodelled mid C19 (3 storey houses rebuilt mid C19). Parallel terraces of 2½ and 3 storey houses (latter Nos 1, 11, 23 and 24), rubble walling, pantile roofs, some mansarded. Mostly sash windows, occasionally with glazing bars, one per floor on each house; some casements. Mostly flush panelled doors, irregularly positioned, some paired.
Cast-iron pump in brick niche between Nos 4 and 5 (late C19). Sheppards Barton is a precinct of vernacular houses said to have been erected for the workers at Sheppards lull. The entrance at the north end is through an archway belonging to No 14 Catherine Hill (qv) and under which is No 1A Sheppards Barton.
All these buildings form an important group with an additional interest as part of the industrial history of the area.
