Sir George Bowyer - The building of the Church on it's orginal site in Great Ormond Street was entirely financed by Sir George Boyer in 1863/1864 at a cost that is said to have ammounted to £ 20,000.
The church was opened by Cardinal Wiseman on 24th June 1864. The Church was intended for the use of the sisters of Mercy and the patients of the Hospital, together with the Knights of Malta.
