TQ 2881 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GREAT PORTLAND STREET, W1 45/62 (east side) 14.1.70 No. 126 - II Offices and shop. c.1898 by A. Beresford Pite. Red brick and sparse painted stone dressings; slate roof. Free Style Queen Anne with more Baroque accent to ground floor and strong vertical emphasis. 4 storeys and dormered steep mansard. Narrow front with full height canted bay and narrow single window bay to right. Ground floor has tripartite shop front composition framed in bolection moulded eared architrave; central doorway flanked by chamfered pilasters with boldly modelled almost Byzantine caps supporting freely modelled brackets to cornice overhanging on cove, carried across front and raised in segmental hood over door. On upper floors the canted bay has flush framed sashes with segmental arches recessed under blind semicircular relieving arches, all slightly set back in full height reveal giving flanking pilaster effect; the narrow sash lights to splayed sides have similar relieving arches. To right hand there is one recessed segmental arched 2 light casement to each floor. Parapet with coping. Central large canted dormer.
