TQ 2980 NW CITY OF WESTMINSTER CLIFFORD STREET W1 70/37 No 8 24.2.58 GV II*

Terrace house. 1719. Yellow brick, slate roof. 3 tall storeys. 3 and a half windows wide. Reinstated ground floor with pilastered doorway off centre to right. The half window is to the right. Revealed sash windows with segmental red brick arches and dressings. Rusticated quoins, plat band over ground floor and stone cornice with urns. Good interior with front compartment staircase to right, the stairs with stone steps and wrought iron balustrade, the staircase hall panelled and with walls and ceiling of well frescoed in monochrome trompe l'oeil attributed to Sir James Thornhill. Panelled front 1st floor rooms with carved cornices; 2nd floor rear room with pilasters and painted ceiling of probably early C20 date. Rear extension contains a 2nd floor room with mid C19 gothic chimney piece and ceiling.
