Carnell chest tomb approximately 3.5 metres north of the organ loft of the Church of St Mary

Chest tomb. Dated 1799 in memory of Elizabeth Carnell. Grey limestone. Chest has fluted corner-shafts with moulded capitals and bases. All four sides contain a singular rectangular fielded panel with concave corners and sunbursts. Flat lid has moulded edges, moulded base and two-step plinth. The northern panel is inscribed. The opening words are in Gothic lettering, the rest is Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. It records the death of Elizabeth Carnell in 1799. The northern panel inscription records the death of her husband William in 1836 and his second wife Sarah in 1848. The bottom step of the plinth contains sockets from former iron area railings.
