11/65 Coach House approx 20 metres
east of Asmall House

Coach house and stables. C18. Handmade brick on high sandstone plinth, stone
slate roof. U-plan: 5-bay main range on north-south axis with projecting wings
on west side, outshuts on east side. Opposed wagon doorways, that between the wings
on west side under porch with splayed cheeks and wooden gable, the other recessed
between the outshuts, then carried across the opening; weather vane mounted on
square stone pedestal in centre of ridge. Gabled 2-storey wings: the left has
external steps to segmental-headed loft door flanked by, 2-light casements with
original diamond-lattice glazing, and tile other has 2 large doorways with
massive stone jambs and lintels, and at 1st floor a wide segmental-headed 5-light
window. Right-hand return wall has inter alia 2 loading doors at 1st floor.
Interior: King post roof trusses with Y-struts; original stalls and loose boxes.
