c1840-50 brass works. Main block of 3 tall storeys, 7 bays, with 2 storey
wings having breaks flanking main block containing large wagon arches
on ground floor. Painted brick. Plinth and ground floor cornice carried
across wings. Second floor sill course. Drip moulded and boxed eaves
cornice. Parapet coping to wings, the left hand one with lean-to section
of wall above break. Ground floor windows recessed for one order with
segmental arched, panelled zone between sills and plinth. Round arched
first floor windows with linking impost strings. Small pane fixed iron frames,
radiating to heads. Above the wagon arches a triple group of stone dressed
windows with pilasters and archivolts, the surround carried up to moulded cornice,
panelled apron on plinth below moulded sills. The broad basket handle wagon
arches are stone dressed and rise from panelled imposts with spaced voussoirs
and keystones. A now rare, formal, symmetrical works elevation for this
period.
