St Thomas a Becket's Chapel

A Grade II Listed Building in West Acre, Norfolk

from the north

The chapel of ST Thomas a Becket from the north. This place proved tricky to find. I hope this helps. From the crossroads near the ford, take the lane south. About 100 yards to where two footpaths meet. Take the left one and immediately leave it on a farm track which swings up the small hill. This leads straight to the monastry mound. All I know of this place is that it may have been Augustinian. One cell at the east end for the celebrant and a dwelling room for about two more acolites. It was enclosed by a flint wall of which a few traces remain. It is believed to have had some traces of graves inside. There is some mention of this place as associated with the nearby West Acre priory and I think some where I read a list of its belongings. Cant remember more but hope this is of interest. Lis
