TL 31NE THUNDRIDGE COLD CHRSTMAS LANE

2/19 East Barn at Sawtrees Farm

GV II

Barn and adjoining cart shed on SE. C17 barn and C19 lean-to
incorporating C17 work. Timber frame weatherboarded with steep
old red tile roof. A 4-bay barn facing W with a gabled porch to
the 2nd bay from N end. Opposed double doors in rear wall. S
end open to modern implement shed of no special interest. The
barn has jowled posts, long curved braces to cambered tie-beams,
mid-height rails tennoned in line, Dovecote in upper gable of
porch, and wallplate joined over each bay post by a face-halved
and bladed scarf. Extending for 2-bays S of SE corner of barn is
the former sidewall of an early C17 barn with heavier timbers,
jowled posts and tension bracinq to the mid-rail, tennoned in
line. This now serves as part of the backwall of a 5-bay C19
lean-to cartshed continuing the support of the main barn.
