TL 31NE THUNDRIDGE COLD CHRISTMAS LANE
(south side)

2/12 Cowards

GV II

House. C16, floor inserted C1700, extended to rear 1964. Timber
frame roughcast with some weatherboarding and steep old red tile
roof. 3-unit, one and a half storeys house with large central
chimney and lobby entry. Stair trimming to rear of stack. 4-bay
structure with jowled posts and clasped purlin roof on Queen-post
trusses. Floor of squared or quartered timber joists carried on
roughly squared axial beams. Chamfered and stopped beam in
parlour possibly to support a chimney hood at site of present
central stack. Large curved brace to tie-beam. Short edge-
halved scarf with bridled butts in each wallplate. 3-window
front facing W, with upper windows rising above the eaves in
small gables. Flush sash windows with small panes. Matching
rear wing extension.
