1905, by Professor Charles Reilly. Substantial country house in the Wren
revival style. Red brick and Bath stone with roof coverings of Westmoreland
slate. Two storeys and attics. Entrance front with centre of 6 bays, 2-2-2
sashes above a single-storey colonnade between projecting wings. The wings
are of 3 bays with giant Ionic corner pilasters and tall pediments with central
occuli. Garden front of 4-3-4 bays articulated with giant Ionic pilasters;
projecting centre with tall pediment and occulus, centre flanked by small
columned porches with slate pent roofs. Prominent chimney stacks. Paved
terrace with stone balustrade and steps. Narrow south front with 2 storey
canted bay with ramped parapet and pediment over. All fronts have small-paned
sash windows and bold modillion cornice. Ancillary buildings include a service
wing attached to the north front of the house.
