Farmhouse, now house. Early C17, altered early C18 and remodelled late C19.
Part timber-framed with brick infill, part brick, including some handmade
brick to south of rear elevation; plain tiled roofs, hipped at north end of
main range. Roughly T-plan; main two-bay range aligned north/south has a
large external chimney at rear with four stacks; also chimney at south gable
end; chimney stacks are all star-shaped and of C19 date; a cross-wing of
three framed bays intersects at north end. Main range is two storeys, attic
and cellar, and has a 2-course band at rear and dentilled eaves cornice;
cross-wing is of one storey and attic. Framing: some in three-bay wing;
east gable end has a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, three struts
to lower collar, two to upper collar and concave-sided V-strut in apex; west
gable end is rebuilt. East front elevation: main range has two ground- and
first-floor 3-light casements and, to the right, a ledged and battened door;
all have cambered heads; attic light in south gable end; projecting wing to
right has an attic light and, in the angle with the main part, a 3-light case-
ment with a cambered head and a 2-light casement. Interior: cross-frames
and purlins remain in three-bay range; both ranges have large fireplaces;
cross-wing has winder staircase in central bay. There are C19 extensions at
the south gable end of the main part and projecting north from the centre of
the cross-wing. The house was formerly part of the Vernon Estate.
