Farmhouse. Early to mid-C17, altered mid-C18, mid-C19-and mid-C20. Timber-
framed with rendered infill on sandstone rubble base, some sandstone rubble
walling, machine-tiled roofs and large brick ridge stack. T-plan; main part
of two framed bays aligned east/west with large chimney in westernmost bay
forming lobby-entrance and gabled stair wing to south side of west bay.
Large cross-wing of two framed bays adjoins west end which has an external
rubble chimney with a brick stack at its south gable end. Two storeys,
attic and cellar. Framing: six rows of panels from sill to wall-plate with
long straight braces across lower corners. Cross-wing has a collar and tie-
beam truss with two large struts, lower rails with subsidiary struts and a
V-strut above the collar at its north gable end. The south gable end has a
tie-beam truss with decorative lattice struts. The stair wing has a tie-beam
truss with two raking struts at its south gable end. North entrance elevation:
main part has one ground floor and two first floor 12-pane sashes, (first floor
sashes have thick glazing bars). Main entrance to right has a lean-to canopy
on shaped brackets and a partly-glazed C20 door. The cross-wing has a 15-pane
ground floor sash with thick glazing bars, a first floor 12-pane sash and a
4-pane sash at attic level. There is a lean-to rubble addition at the east
end of the main range with a 2-light casement in its north elevation. Also
lean-to painted brick addition on south side of east bay with glazed C20 porch.
Interior: original moulded ceiling beams. Cellar has square ashlar piers and
corbels supporting ground floor. Also several doorways on ground floor with
deep stone lintels and jambs, each a single block of stone. (RCHM Herefs II,
