SO 83 SE FORTHAMPTON -

2/33 Lower Lode hotel

Inn. C18 and C20. Red brick and C20 timber framing, red tile
roof, brick stacks. Rectangular main body with outbuildings on
right gable end, stables (now partly converted) set back on left
linked to main body via C20 extension with timber-framed first
floor. 2-storey main body with symmetrical 3-windowed facade. Two
2-storey projecting canted bays lit by 12-pane sashes with horns.
Central C20 three-panelled door with fanlight flanked by a single
light and 2-light casement both with horizontal glazing bars.
Twelve-pane sash in flush surround with lugs at each corner above.
Two-storey stable block, built in 2 phases. Ground floor lit by
five 2-light casements with horizontal glazng bars, set in
segmental-headed surrounds. Six-light casement to first floor.
Wooden plaque upper left advertising a / One guinea reward for
persons giving information towards the conviction of any
offenders who destroy or damage any gate, stile, rails or fences or
commit any tresspass on the Forthampton and Swinley Estate /.
Upper floor of C20 infill between stables and main body timber-
framed with two gabled dormers, ground floor glazed, with central
part-glazed door. Brick dentil decoration at eaves of main body
and stables. Projecting gable-end stacks to main body, blind
round-headed recess with keystone and imposts towards top of left-
hand chimney.
