House, formerly the Estate Office and Steward's House to the Powderham Estate. Said
to be C18 on account of the doorcase but possibly early C19 re-using the doorcase.
Whitewashed and rendered; slate roof, gabled at ends; left end stack and 2 axial
stacks.
Plan: single depth plan, 3 rooms wide, with an entrance to right of centre into a
heated room containing the stair.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 6-bay front with regular fenestration. Re-used 2-
leaf glazed front door with a doorcase with reeded pilasters and a curved hood with a
dentil cornice. Closely-spaced 2-light C19 or C20 timber casements with glazing
bars.
Interior: Joinery includes deeply-panelled doors and cupboards and a stair with
diamond piercings to plain splat balusters. 2 reeded chimney-pieces survive with C19
grates, one introduced from elsewhere.
Group value with Polruan, adjoining at the right, and thatched houses on the opposite
side of the road.
