6/54 The Gas Works

Former gas works to Goodrich Court (demolished), now house. Attributed to
Edward Blore, c1828, altered c1970's. Coursed and squared rubble, ashlar
dressings, slate roof with cast iron trusses. Main rectangular block with
C20 additions at both gable ends and to main entrance, circular part-
subterranean former storage chamber. Single storey, two original windows
of main block with shouldered openings and replaced glazing bar sash windows,
decorative vent with pointed arched openings and conical capping to north
gable; C20 glazed porch to main entrance. An unusual survival of a private
gas works.
