Description

SO 43 SW ABBEY DORE CP -

6/19 Barn about 70 yards
east of Lower Jury Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Probably C17 and "WP 1716" on tie-beam. Timber-frame, weatherboards
and brick with corrugated iron roof. Five-bay timber-framed part is aligned
roughly north/south with two-bay brick range projecting westwards from centre
bay. West elevation has large central brick gable with five rows of vent slits,
weatherboarded part to right and breeze block lean-to (not included) masking
left part. Frame of main range is three square panels high from cill to wall-
plate. Interior of main range has collar trusses with V-struts and one or
three posts from ties to collars; truss of projecting wing has two posts from
tie to collar. Threshing floor was formerly in centre bay of north/south part.
The date probably relates to a repair. Included as an interesting example of
a dated barn (RCHM Vol I, p 11).
