5/17 Bowling Green Farhhouse

GV II

House. Circa 1500, hall floor inserted c1600 and N end added,
C18 central chimney in place of a smoke bay, NW wing c1960. AT-
shaped open-hall and crosswing house facing E with central
chimney at (S) upper end of hall and front entrance with porch on
line of screens passage. Timber frame on a tarred brick sill,
roughcast with old red tiled roofs, hipped with gablet at N,
half-hipped at W gables. 2 3-light diamond mullioned original
windows survive on S side of crosswing. 2-light flush casement
windows generally. Front has a jettied crosswing on LH and
hipped roof to porch. Smoke-blackened rafters to hall range.
Clasped-purlin roof structures. Wind-braces in wing and tension
bracing in N end wall. Former stair at rear of crosswing.
Chamfered and stopped joists to floor inserted c1600 in hall. An
impressive late medieval hall house.
