Here lyes the body of the vertuous lady Dame Elizabeth Garrard, late wife of Sir John Garrard, knt.- and bart. one of the deputie lieutennants of this Countie, sonne of Sir John Garrard, and grandchild of Sir William Garrard, knights, both of them some time lord maiors of the cittie of London, whose ancestors lie buried in the parish church of Sittingbourne, in Kent, but themselves In the parish church of St. Magnes, in London. She was the eldest daughter of Sir Edward Barkham, knt. sometime lord maior of the cittie of London, married in the yeare of our Lord l 6 l l , called by God out of this life the 17th day of April, in the yeare of our Lord 1632, being then in the 39th year of her age, mother of fourteen children, sixe sonnes and eight daughters, (whereof two, a son and a daughter, went before her to heaven, the rest she left behind her upon earth, first commending them by devout prayers unto God, and then deliveringe them over with hearty desires to her beloved husband, to be further instructed in the fear of God ;) towards God a most faithful child, towards her husband a loyall spouse, towards her children a most lovinge mother, towards the poore a most charitable neighbour, in health praysing God, in sickness bearing patiently. She lived most godly, and died most comfortably, bequeathing her body unto earth, in assured hope of a blessed resurrection, and her soule unto God, in confidence of ber salvation
