Cottage. Probably late C18 - C19. Local flint and stone rubble; stone rubble
stacks topped with C20 brick; thatch roof.
Plan: the cottage faces south-west. It has a 2-room plan with central entrance
onto the stair. Gable-end stacks. 2 storeys with woodshed outshot on the left
(north-west) end.
Exterior: symmetrical 3-window front of C19 and C20 casements; the latest (on the
ground floor) do not have glazing bars. Central doorway contains a C20 part-glazed
door behind a contemporary boarded porch. Roof is gable-ended.
Interior: no carpentry detail is exposed on the ground floor and both fireplaces
are blocked. The roof was not available for inspection at the time of this survey.
Thatchcote forms part of an attractive group of thatch-roofed cottages with Thatch
(q.v) and Beckside Cottage and Ropley (q.v).
