Pair of semi-detached houses and attached railings. c1840-50. Ashlar over brick with slate roof (artificial slate to left), four tall, stepped stucco lateral stacks and rear stack, iron railings and balconies.
EXTERIOR: two storeys and basement, with attic to right, and six first floor windows arranged 1:4:1. End bays break forward and are gabled. Ashlar detailing includes quoins to break forwards at ground floor; tooled first floor band; tooled architraves to windows, those to centre range at first floor incorporate aprons and have ears and shoulders; similar to outer bays but with segmental arch and keystone above; ground floor has eared and shouldered architraves with sills, whilst entrances and windows have round-arched arcade with keystones on pilasters. Mainly two/two sashes, except ground-floor centre windows are one/one round-arched sashes. Basement has eight/eight sashes. Off-centre entrances (alike): flight of roll-edged steps to recessed four-fielded-panel double doors, that to left part-glazed, with fanlights. Attic roof dormer at right has one/one sash and gable. Party-wall raised and wide eaves. Rear has quoins to break forwards at ground floor; moulded first-floor band. Six/six sashes to first floor; outer tall tripartite windows with two/two sashes; otherwise six-pane French windows with divided overlights. Mainly blind windows to south side, one six/six sash; two attic roof dormers.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: rod and bobbin railings to sides of steps; X-motif balustrade across front at left. To rear are flights of steps with stick balusters to French windows and lancet railings to south; X-motif ground-floor balcony and simple scroll motif. Further X-motif basement balustrades.
